Volkswagen’s New Transporter Lineup Just Got Way More Versatile – and a Lot More Fun to Spec

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is turning up the volume on the new Transporter generation. Already loved in panel van and Kombi form, the range now welcomes three fresh variants that crank up both practicality and personality:

  • Dropside with double cab – rugged, roomy, and ready for everything from construction sites to surf trips. (From €41,158¹)

  • Panel van Plus – a clever mashup for hauling both crew and cargo. (From €38,525¹)

  • Panel van with L-shaped partition – designed for awkwardly long loads without sacrificing passenger comfort. (From €39,990¹)

Oh, and they’re not just diesel anymore – you can go electric or plug-in hybrid too. Every Transporter sold in Germany comes with a 5-year warranty.

Dropside with Double Cab: Built for Grit, Now with Electrons

This is the Transporter’s tough-guy spec – a legend in road construction, forestry, and landscaping. You can go traditional with an 81 kW / 110 PS or 110 kW / 150 PS TDI front-wheel-drive setup, or option 4MOTION all-wheel drive with a beefy 110 kW / 150 PS TDI and 8-speed auto.

But here’s the big leap: for the first time ever, you can get it fully electric. Choose from 100 kW / 136 PS, 160 kW / 218 PS, or a punchy 210 kW / 286 PS motor, all powered by a 64 kWh battery feeding the rear wheels via a single-speed automatic.

The load bed? 4.2 m² of usable space, fold-down aluminium sides, payload up to 1,073 kg, and towing capacity up to 2,500 kg. If you need something bespoke, skip the platform entirely and mount your own body.

Panel Van Plus: Two Worlds in One

Think of it as the Transporter’s “crew + cargo” edition. You get a three-seat second row, plus up to three up front. A clear-window partition keeps the cab civilised while the load stays secure. Side access comes via a passenger-side sliding door (driver’s side optional), both with glass.

Panel Van with L-Shaped Partition: For Those Weirdly Long Loads

New to the lineup, the L-partition design extends the load bay on the driver’s side right up to the front seats – perfect for pipes, boards, or gear that won’t fit in a standard van. It still protects second-row passengers from shifting cargo. Twin sliding doors are standard, with a window on the passenger side.

Tech & Trim: More Than Just White Paint

Panel vans can be kitted with PanAmericana off-road styling – rugged body cladding, upgraded interior – or go urban chic with the Edition package (17-inch alloys, black roof, and more).

Drivetrain options are just as flexible:

  • TDI diesel

  • Electric

  • Plug-in hybrid – 171 kW / 232 PS, CVT auto, front-wheel drive
